no1 why plan? why not plan?

"A good plan is like a road map: it shows the final destination and it's usually the best way to get there." - H. Stanely Judd

"Plan well before you take the journey. Remember the carpenter's rule: Measure twice, cut once." - unknown source

Production Planning - 3 Basic Steps:

Plan the shoot, (pre prod)

shoot the plan, (prod)

edit the planned shoot. (post)

*above includes: contingency planning

Planning lets you take control of getting what you need to tell your story. eg. instead of saying "This cam angle will look good on video" and starting to shoot whatever happens, think "what do I want to do with this cam angle in my video? how will these footages help tell my story?". You then shoot, and if necessary, direct the action to achieve your goal.

Planning starts from the beginning.
